Great books don’t just appear on bookshelves. They’re built with care, expertise, and the generosity of people who believe ideas should travel widely. From field-changing monographs to beautifully produced general-interest titles, charitable support lets us publish important work that commercial models alone can’t carry. Your support also helps us keep prices within reach for students and lifelong learners.
When you give to the University Press of Florida and UF Press, you help authors refine their arguments, editors and designers bring clarity and beauty to the page, and public-minded scholarship reach readers far beyond the academy. Your philanthropy advances discovery, preserves culture, and elevates voices that might otherwise go unheard.
Donations of any amount are appreciated.
Additional Ways to Give
If you would like to consider targeted opportunities that align your gift with the work you value most, we would be delighted to discuss these and other meaningful ways for you to make a charitable contribution to the Press. Please contact Romi Gutierrez, Press Director, at romi@upress.ufl.edu or 352.294.6819.
Sponsor a book
As a not-for-profit scholarly publisher, the Press produces specialized books that often cannot recover costs through sales alone. Your gift could help our publishing program by defraying the costs of printing and allowing us to market our books at affordable prices. The Press also seeks support for books that demand color printing or special editing, design, or marketing. Gifts of $500 or more may be designated to support a single title, and donors will be recognized in the published book.
Sponsor a book series
The Press has active series in the areas of Caribbean and Latin American studies, government and politics in the South, southern history, medieval literature, modernist literature, archaeology, and anthropology. The Press is also actively seeking sponsors for potential series in Caribbean and Latin American art, and the environment and natural history of Florida and the Southeast with a focus on sustainability and resiliency.
Sponsor a student internship
The Press offers internships in its acquisitions editorial, production editorial, and marketing departments. These positions allow students to learn about scholarly and trade book publishing and gain valuable on-the-job experience. Numerous Press interns have secured jobs at top publishing houses and other media and technology companies. An annual gift of $8,000 will fund a named internship, or you may contribute any amount to support the existing internship program.
First-time author fund
The Press publishes groundbreaking works that resonate in their fields and beyond, and this often requires supporting authors overlooked by for-profit publishers, authors from under-resourced institutions, or authors who might not have access to institutional or departmental funding. Missing these critical resources and pressed for time, first-time authors often pay out of pocket for indexes, proofreading, or crucial elements that support a central thesis, like text from other works or images that have permission fees. Our goal is to provide authors with the resources necessary to focus on successfully conveying their research and their creative output to broad audiences.
Support for authors who are not native speakers of English
The Press strives to publish meritorious works from diverse, global voices, bringing new perspectives to English readers. However, this work often requires additional resources from both the authors—who often hire a developmental editor to help tailor their writing for the English-speaking audience—and for the publisher, who must ensure that the work receives additional copyediting.
